Jul 04, 2008 You can't average hands. What's the average of a straight flush and an ace high? You can talk about the most common winning hand (the mode) or you can talk about the median winning hand, but the average doesn't make any sense. Winningest Hand in No Limit Hold Em?? It would be interesting to see the 'average' winning hand including hands not.

When you say average, do you mean like str8 , flush ,2 pairs or starting hand ? |

the average 'made hand' is 2 pair i think; mathematically i think it's between a pair and 2 pair the average starting hand is Q7, the computer hand |

Remember that the winning 2 pair often uses a paired board, so don't worry Alon. You aces will win quite often without improvement :-) |

im really not sure alon it sounds weird saying that the best PF hand in holdem needs help to win, but i do remember hearing that the average hand is 2 pair |

AA pre-flop is a monster, but it decreases in value the more players that see the flop, turn, and river. If all 10 players see the flop, pocket aces has a very poor outlook. so, if only 1 caller it is great, but the more players that stay in the pot the weaker it becomes. zinzan1000 |

Absolutely nothing. I was just curious. I was playing at a .02/.04 table after the tourny this morning and it seemed like every one was in every hand and started me thinking what the average winning hand would be if everyone played every hand to the river. |

Ok guys, this is the reason we LEARN how to play. The AVERAGE winning hand (correct me if im wrong) 10 handed is 3 9's But the point of raising is to shove out the crap hand that can get lucky and give your big hand more value. Think about it, if ten players limped with revelent PP from AA> then AA is no longer a favourite, but if your push then it becomes a bigger hand, because you induce folds. Basic stuff guys................... |

on a .02/.04 table you are going to get a lot of players staying on nothing just because of the low limit they will call anything |

the average winning hand with 10 players is not 999. it is something that can't be calculated. if you were to set some parameters...like all players stay in every hand to the river...you could come up with something, but that really has no value. there are way too many variables to calculate such a thing. |

re: Poker & What is the average hand? Alon didn't state whether this was a Limit, or No Limit curiosity. He just said ' 10 player Texas Holdem Table' so the theory of chasing out weaker hole cards while you hold pocket aces becomes redundant to a certain extent. Plus i think it was a hypothetical question as opposed to a strategic one. He noticed something, asked himself a question, and wondered what the results might show. zinzan1000 |

On one of the 2 poker channels we have here - i may be wrong - but i believe one of the presenters once said the 'average' starting hand in NoLimit Hold-em with 10 players was in fact J-3 os And the winning hand was a set of Jacks Now there may be differing factors involved but that was the claim. Set of Jacks is almost set of nines so sounds about right. It's a bigger hand than I thought, but I suppose most hands never get to showdown, so winning hands will have to be quite big. |

IanT. | I would have thought the average hand would be 78o, the 2 cards in the middle of the deck. But I guess that you can look at it as half the time one card will 8 or higher with the J as average and half the time one card will be 7 or lower with the 4 being average. That would make the average hand J4o. |

Lots of players fail to recognize when hands have showdown value.
They consistently flush money down the drain betting and raising when instead they should be taking a showdown line.
When your hand has showdown value your equity comes from getting all the way to showdown and winning.
So making it to showdown (cheaply) should be your number one goal.

Simply put, every other hand you can be dealt is going to lose you money. As a beginner or even intermediate player, hands that may look great - such as an off-suit Q-J or J-10 - are simply going to lose you money in the long run.
The worse the hands you play, the harder the decisions you're going to have to make post-flop.
The goal as a beginner poker player is to make as few mistakes as possible. And the best way to limit the number of mistakes you make is to reduce the number of difficult decisions you have to make.
The three most common mistakes a beginner makes are:
- Playing out of position
- Playing weak starting hands
- Playing marginal hands against a raise
Stick to only playing the hands in this list. Throw away the weaker of these hands when out of position, and only play against a raise if you have a very strong hand or the odds with a strong drawing hand.
Follow those guidelines, and you'll be on a fast track to making profit.

You'll not hit the hand much more than you'll hit it. Play strong hands that lose less. Use the odds in your favor and ignore could have been.
Alrik Wylie 2015-12-13 12:19:41
I think their schedule is based on playing at the real money tables not a Tourney , in a Tourney there are other rules because your dealing with a time schedule and increasing blinds , but their tip above is not a bad one except when you follow blind , when you don't get much good hands then you have to do something somewhere. And trying to make advantage of the situation is very important in a tourney according to my opnion. Also according to the hight of your stack and the position your in your able to play more tight or loose , loose make it able to play les good hands and see if it falls for you on the table. The Best hands you play agressive especially when some before you raised a high amount otherwise you give it a small raise hoping your going to be reraised or at least a call. Greets.
Tuomo Kämäräinen 2015-12-03 23:47:11
It's good to play tight when: A) there are many players on table B) when you are out of position C) when playing against LAGs. It's never black and white in poker, usually the best strategy depends on many factors. I like the charts in 'Wizard od odds' like http://wizardofodds.com/games/texas-hold-em/4-player-game/ . They give you the relative hand strength based on table size, but let you decide which range to play based on your position and type of opponents..
Tobias Larsen 2015-12-03 21:53:17
This is ridiculous! What happend to 'it's not about the hand you are delt, it's how you play them'? - if i follow this guide i can almost only play high pockets or high suits, and be almost too careful doing it. That way i am going to be killed by blinds and the opponent(s) can bluff me succesfully the hole game. This article says that winning poker games is about pure luck. That's ridiculous.
Tuomo Kämäräinen 2015-11-01 12:16:07
On heads up I'd bet 4 BB. Depends on number and style of players, bets, your position and so on.
Tuomo Kämäräinen 2015-11-01 12:11:01
What kind of starting hands should I play depending on my position and number of players (left) in table?
Tuomo Kämäräinen 2015-11-01 12:07:48
You both have four of a kind. The one with highest kicker as the 5th card wins. Ace beats jack. In Texas Hold'Em the best 5 card combination wins.
Jessica Christy Vance 2015-09-01 22:16:24
Q8 You have the higher kicker. a8 Vs a7 If the board was qqak6 you would split the pot cause both your hand would be ak Your kickers don't come into play. You make the best 5 cards from your two and the board. So based on the hand you spoke of if the 6 or 2 were instead higher than your kicker, you two would have the same hand.
